Team Members

Martin Ince, P.Eng., is the founder, owner, and president of M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd. Mr. Ince has over 20 years of professional experience, which includes providing renewable energy consulting and earth sciences/hydrogeological engineering services. He has worked on numerous large and small scale wind energy initiatives ranging from 600 kW to 100 MW+ projects. His experience includes project management, fluid flow modelling, geochemical monitoring, environmental assessments, resource assessments, electrical interconnection, financial analysis, expert witness and First Nations consultation. Mr. Ince is also founder and past chair of Positive Power Co-operative, a community-based renewable energy co-operative. He has presented various wind resource and technical workshops on behalf of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association and Positive Power Co-operative. He has been board member of a variety of community conservation and environmental organizations and is an active member of the CanWEA Environmental Assessment committee.

Mrs. Marika Ince, B.A., M.Ed., is the current administrative manager of M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd. and is a former secondary school teacher. Ms. Ince has over two decades of classroom experience and has developed and implemented curricula for school boards, NGOs, and various other educational organizations. Marika has a Masters in Adult Education and is particularly interested in the relationship between adult education and energy conservation, environmentally sustainable practices and community peace building.

Mr. Thomas Bernacki, P.Eng, is an Electrical Engineering graduate from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He is a professional engineer with eight years of professional experience. He spent a number of years working in Research and Development in the semiconductor industry, co-authoring numerous papers and patents in process technology development. His lifelong passion and commitment to environmental sustainability brings him to M. K. Ince and Associates Ltd., where he endeavours to help build a greener world for future generations. Presently, Tom serves as a project manager, the primary contact for all electrical interconnection work, and adds his statistical data analysis expertise to Wind Resource Assessment work. He is a father to two boys, and looks forward to bringing them backpacking and canoeing with him as soon as they are able.

Ms. Andrea McDowell, B.E.S., graduated from the Environmental Studies program at the University of Waterloo in 1999. Since that time, she has worked in a diverse array of environmental fields, from waste management to rail transportation to contaminated site remediation to environmental assessment at both the federal and provincial level. Currently, Andrea is an Environmental Assessment Manager at M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd., focusing on the Renewable Energy Approval process for a variety of Class 4 Wind Energy Facilities. Andrea spends her free time hiking, writing articles on natural heritage and renewable energy, planting trees with environmental groups, and taking her daughter frog-catching and bird-watching.

Ms. Karla Klein, B.Sc.,, holds a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. As a Renewable Energy Project Manager, Karla brings more than 15 years of business experience with a consistent track record of successful delivery of business critical projects for several of Canada’s well-known corporations. Prior to joining M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd., she spent more than three years working with many of Canada’s top executives in the management consulting industry and also worked as a Product Development Project Manager with a well known manufacturer where she was responsible for the product development of several major brands. Karla is an active member of the Project Management Institute and enjoys swimming, travelling, volunteering and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Katie Meyer-Beck, B.A, M.A., holds a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from the University of Guelph, and a Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies from the European University Centre for Peace Studies in Austria. She has a background in project management and international development and has worked and volunteered with various NGOs locally and overseas. Katie also brings an interest in communications, sustainable development and public engagement to MKI where she serves as a renewable energy project manager. She enjoys cooking, travelling and taking walks with her husband and young daughter.

Ms. Hanna Vovk, M.A., serves as an Environmental Assessment and GIS Specialist with M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd. Hanna holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Brown University, and a Graduate Diploma in Spatial Analysis and GIS from McMaster University. She is a Geography graduate from Kyiv National University in Ukraine. Hanna’s previous experience rests in sustainability, climate change policy and energy research at universities and non-governmental organizations. In 2006, Hanna was recognized as a recipient of a research internship position at the Worldwatch Institute. As a student, she was an active member of the European Geography Association for Students and Young Geographers and travelled extensively in many European countries. Hanna brings a passionate and unique vision of integrating renewable energy systems in nature and society to MKI. In her spare time, she enjoys jogging, camping, travelling and photography.

Ms. Christine Homuth, B.E.S., GIS-CS, is a GIS Analyst for M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd. Christine graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies and from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems. Christine comes from a multi-disciplinary background, and uses her experience in academia, natural heritage research and education, and municipal land-use planning in the production of various maps associated with the development of renewable energy projects. Christine is an active member of various professional associations and sat as the Student Representative on the Canadian Cartographic Association’s executive committee. She also participates in various volunteer activities including coaching swimming for Special Olympics Ontario and assisting with bike rides for charity when she’s not participating in rides herself.

Mr. Yves Scholten, B. Sc., is an Ecologist with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Environmental Science (minor: Philosophy) from the University of Toronto. Yves has worked for private companies, universities and government ministries studying plants, birds, bacteria and zooplankton. With a background including botany, microbiology, ornithology and aquatic ecology experience, Yves brings a broad perspective to M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd., where he currently serves as Renewable Energy and Environmental Assessment Biologist. Yves’ passion for sustainability has led him to explore wind power on the Great Lakes and the Atlantic: with fair winds, he is apt to be navigating a sailboat over waves.

Mr. Daniel Stuart, B.Sc., is a graduate in Ecology from the University of Guelph. Currently, Daniel serves as a Renewable Energy Biologist with M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd. He possesses a variety of skills in the field of biology, including the identification of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and particularly vascular plants. Daniel is an avid hiker and canoeist: his outdoor pursuits have brought him to mountainous trails, rivers and lakes in Western Canada, the American Southwest, Switzerland, Italy, France, and New Zealand. These experiences have instilled in him a respect for the natural world, and a conviction that the development of renewable energy sources is essential for the future our natural environment.

Mr. David Barrie, E.I.T., is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta. He is an Engineer-in-Training with four years of professional experience. After graduation, David spent three years working with an environmental non-profit organization focused on green buildings and energy issues. He also has experience in Alberta’s energy industry. David, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), is a dedicated supporter of renewable energy systems and sustainable development. Presently at M.K. Ince and Associates, David serves as project manager for British Columbia projects. His hobbies include backpacking, canyoneering, and playing ultimate frisbee and hockey.

Mr. David Smith, B.Eng., obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Systems Engineering from the University of Guelph in 2007. Since graduation David has been actively involved in engineering and renewable energy technology. In his previous employment he tested structural and power delivery systems for industrial equipment, and spent his personal time taking specialized courses in solar, wind and small scale hydro generation. Presently with M.K. Ince and Associates Ltd., David coordinates meteorological tower installations, analyzes and reports on wind data, and is actively involved in other engineering aspects such as noise modeling and wind farm design. Before David joined the team, he took his skills to Nicaragua where he was able to assist in technical and managerial roles designing, building and installing small scale wind and solar projects. David is pleased to be working in an industry where he can contribute to the growth of renewable energy.

Ms. Jocelyn Neysmith, B. Sc., M. Env. Dev., holds a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Guelph, and a Masters in Environment and Development from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. She spent many years living, working and travelling in Europe, Africa and Asia. When home in the Hamilton area, she volunteers with several local environmental NGOs. In 2011, Jocelyn brought her extensive public engagement and project management experience to the MKI team where she serves as project manager for Canadian post-construction monitoring projects.

Mr. Robert Tymstra is an avian wildlife specialist with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Waterloo University. He has observed over 4500 bird species and participated in bird surveys, censuses, expeditions and migration monitoring programs in over 50 different countries. Mr. Tymstra is on the board of directors for the Pelee Island Bird Observatory and the Wilds of Pelee Island, and he is a member of the Ontario Field Ornithologists. Mr. Tymstra is also a photographer and a wilderness survival and tracking enthusiast.

Ms. Adina Bogert-O'Brien, B.Sc. is a Math and Mechanical Engineering graduate from Queen's University. Before working at M. K. Ince and Associates, she pursued her green interests by working in straw bale construction and as a solar hot water installer. In the fall of 2007 she visited Germany to work on organic farms and was inspired by the way wind turbines fit gracefully into the landscape there. Adina now lives in Hamilton and enjoys commuting to work on her power assisted bicycle.

Mr. Vivek A. Voora, P.Eng has a Masters of Science in Environment and Management from Royal Roads University as well as a Bachelor of Engineering and Society from McMaster University. He has held a variety of technical positions with Environment Canada from Eureka and Alert in Nunavet to Burlington, Ontario. Fully bilingual, Vivek has the ability to address complex problems with an inter-disciplinary approach. A world-wide tramper (hiker), Vivek's expertise and passion leads him towards sustainable development.
